We offer four dynamic itineraries a year to breathtaking places. These are the places we know well and are excited to share with you. Most of our itineraries start in the afternoon of the first day at a meeting destination that offers overnight accommodations and serves breakfast. On the first evening, we meet, go over the upcoming journey, make sure everyone is well-prepared and properly packed, and answer your questions. If you’d like to extend your visit beyond the expedition, each itinerary includes recommendations for places to visit and special things to do in the area. Our groups are deliberately small, comprised of six to eight participants (depending on the itinerary) and two of us!

It is our intention to rotate our offerings, including at least one new itinerary each year for returning guests.

A typical day of a Nowwhat River Expedition:

We wake up in time to greet the sunrise, break camp, and after morning yoga and stretching and a hearty breakfast, we set off on course. We stop in the middle of the day for a hike or swim, and a picnic lunch, with the goal of getting to camp early, avoiding the typical afternoon headwinds, and allowing ample time for guided exploring and free time. After dinner, we facilitate sharing around the fire ending our day with singing, stories, and stargazing. Each day will reflect our intention to establish rhythms, routines, and rituals to celebrate each individual, and each couple and nurture our expedition community.

The importance of food:

We prepare simple and delicious fire-cooked meals made from scratch with whole ingredients, sourced locally, seasonally, and responsibly, whenever possible. We eat a full breakfast and dinner, complimented by a trail lunch and energy-supporting snacks throughout the day. We do our best to accommodate special dietary needs, with limitations to what is possible in remote settings with limited carrying capacity and without refrigeration.

We value our shared meals, as times to nourish our bodies and celebrate the gifts of food, and companionship amongst the group.

Personal and group equipment:

We provide everything that a typical outdoor-oriented person does not own. You bring a sleeping bag, rain gear, and warm and durable outdoor clothing (we will provide a detailed packing list). We make sure that everything we ask you to bring along will be useful to you in your daily life of adventure beyond your Nowwhat journey.

We’ll provide tents, cooking, eating, bathroom, and technical gear as well as boats, paddles, and life jackets on paddling trips. On ski trips, we’ll facilitate backcountry ski rentals for our guests.

Backcountry emergencies:

Emergencies on Nowwhat Adventures are rare, because of well-thought-out itineraries, care that goes into preparation, and the many years of experience in working with groups in remote settings. When things do go wrong, we are well-prepared to respond:
Misha is a Wilderness First Responder with over 30 years of experience in handling backcountry emergencies. Lynne uses herbal and natural healing, when appropriate, in  caring for sickness and injuries in the backcountry. We carry an extensive emergency and preventative First Aid Kit and place-appropriate emergency communications equipment. Every journey has an emergency communication and evacuation plan.
