Hut to Hut cross-country skiing in the winter paradise
Chic-Chocs, the furthest North-Eastern Appalachians rise above the Gulf of St Lawrence, forming a vast upland Plato, that receives three hundred inches of snow, thanks to the dramatic compilation of climactic factors. Park National De La Gaspesie offers a system of cozy huts that allows us to cross-country ski into the depth of this enchanted Northern wilderness while enjoying the warmth of the wood stove and fire-cooked meals at night. Expect deep powder, encounters with moose, and northern lights if we are lucky! You don’t need to be an expert backcountry skier to enjoy this foray into the Winter Wonderland but be able to ski 10 kilometers a day at your own pace, with a light pack. This trip starts at Manoir De Sapins in Ste-Félicité, Quebec.
April 4 – April 11, 2024 (9 days)
Canoeing and canyon exploration
Canoeing down the Green River through the red-rock country is one of the most beautiful and accessible river experiences, that would delight both beginner and experienced adventurers. The river is gentle, yet the current is strong enough to carry the boats with just the right amount of effort. The scenery is breathtaking, campsites are set in spectacular canyons and the day hikes reveal the geological wonders and rare encounters with plants, animals, and prehistoric art. The Desert wakes up with blooming cacti, wildflowers, and the delicate fragrances of the early spring. The weather is typically delightful with pleasant sunny days and cool nights. No prior canoeing or camping experience is necessary. This trip starts and ends in Moab, Utah.
August 30 – September 4, 2024 (5 days)
Canoeing, and the art of living in the Boreal Forest.
Ashuapmushuan (a place, where I lay, waiting for moose in the indigenous Innu language) is a pristine Northern River that drains the vast area of the Canadian Shield South to mighty Lake St. Jean and from there to the Gulf of St Lawrence via a famous Saguenay Fjord. On this river trip, we will explore the upper reaches of the river, characterized by beautiful lakes connected by stretches of moving water and beginner rapids. You will experience the Northern wilderness in its pristine state, virtually unchanged by humans. We will pick berries and mushrooms, fish for Northern Pike and Walleye, and fall asleep to the howl of the wolf in the old-growth forest. We will follow an ancient migration route that connected Hudson Bay and St. Lawrence, dating back at least 4,000 years. This trip is designed as an accessible introduction to traditional canoe camping and will touch the soul of both the beginner and the experienced adventurer.
